Last week we left an open question…what to do with the tiny origami envelopes? Here I propose an idea…
A perfect mailbox, just the size of my tiny envelopes ^^
The bottle already made a mailbox, it only needed a mouth. Using a cutter, I opened a rectangular hole in the cork.
Now we can send all these envelopes…what will they carry inside? Perhaps good wishes for somebody special…or New Year’s resolutions…or creative ideas for a blog =P
Long life to miniatures!
La semana anterior terminé con una incógnita ¿dónde meter los sobrecitos origami? La solución la encontré poco después:
Un buzón perfecto, del tamaño adecuado para mis pequeños sobrecitos ^^
De modo que ya tenía el buzón. Ahora sólo hacía falta abrir la boca. Con ayuda de un cutter vacié toda una franja en el tape de corcho.
Ahora ya se pueden mandar estos mensajes….¿qué llevarán en el interior? quizás sean buenos deseos para alguien especial….o propósitos para el año…..o ideas creativas para un blog =P

This week brings an origami craft; a technique we are really fond of although it’s been a long time since our last work of this kind. Surfing the Internet I came across a really good idea: making envelopes by using only a sheet of paper, no cutting or glue needed!! Only folding the paper in the right places…

This is an awesome way of sending those letters that are just one sheet long; in addition to the different touch it gives to our message, we do not need to buy an envelope ;P
As I have a weakness for miniatures, I’ve chosen to make a tiny version of these origami envelopes, by using some small pieces of paper that were left from other projects (always think twice before throwing away remaining materials!).
I also decorated some of the mini-envelopes to make them look like those classic air-mail ones
I loved the idea of having a myriad of tiny envelopes but, what to do with them? Next time we’ll find out…
Esta vez traemos un origami, que hacía mucho tiempo que no actualizábamos esta categoría del blog. Navegando una tarde por la red encontré esta idea tan buena de fabricar sobres con folios sin necesidad de cortar ni pegar, únicamente haciendo los pliegues precisos. Esta forma de hacer sobres es genial para las cartas que sólo ocupan una cara del folio, además de ser original, nos ahorramos el sobre ;P. Personalmente he preferido hacer la manualidad a otra escala, y es que tengo debilidad por las miniaturas….encontré unos restos de folio (¡piénsalo dos veces antes de tirar los restos de una manualidad!) y probé a hacer sobres de distinto tamaño.
También me animé a decorar algún sobre como aquellos clásicos del correo aéreo

Some time ago I wanted to make a small gift for a group of people I was working with. But I wanted it to have a special, personal touch, so I decided to make these origami flower brooches:
They are really eye-catching, but at the same time very easy to make. We need:
– Paper squares of different sizes. For each brooch, we need a square of 9×9 cm. (3.54 x 3.54 inches), another of 6×6 cm (2.36 x 2.36 inches), and a third one of 4×4 cm (1.57 x 1.57 inches). It’s better not to use thick paper, especially for the little parts.
– Glass beads for the central part.
– Needle and thread.
– Brooch bases, that you can find in every notions store/haberdashery.
– Glue may not be essential but it will help to get a better result 🙂
– Some soft varnish; again, it’s not essential but it makes the result look better.
Firstly, we have to fold each piece of paper so as to make an origami flower, following the steps as shown in the image below. That way we will get three flowers of three different sizes, and of three different colors if we choose the adequate papers.
When we have the three flowers, we put all together by sewing them with the needle, starting in the back of the biggest one and adding the other two on the same thread. To make the centre of the brooch look nicer, we can add a glass bead to the thread before sewing the three flowers on the other way back. To join the flowers in a better way, we can add a drop of glue between each pair of flowers before knotting the thread at the back of the brooch. We can sew the group of flowers to the brooch base with the same thread, also adding a bit of glue to secure the joint.
Once the glue has completely dried, we can apply the varnish to the flowers. That will make the brooch more resistant, and it will also look brighter. The easiest option is to use a spray varnish for paper, since it reaches all the small holes and corners of the origami.
These brooches I made were not too big, so they are quite easy to combine to get a touch of color in our outfit. As they are so easy to make, you can have several in different colors and use them with different clothes; I’m sure more than one person will ask you about them!
Hace unos meses quería hacer un regalo para un grupo de personas. Pero no quería comprarlo, sino que fuera de mi cosecha, más personal. Así se me ocurrió fabricar unos broches con papeles de colores. El resultado fue el siguiente:
La elaboración es bien sencilla. Se necesita el siguiente material:
– Cuadrados de papel de diferentes tamaños. Para confeccionar un broche, hace falta uno de 9x9cm, otro de 6x6cm y otro de 4x4cm. Hay que procurar que el papel no sea muy grueso, especialmente el que se use para trabajar con los cuadrados más pequeños.
– Abalorios o bolitas para adornar el centro.
– Aguja e hilo.
– Bases para broches (los hay en casi todas las mercerías y tiendas de cuentas). Yo escogí unos que tienen base plana y dos agujeritos.
– Pegamento para fijar todas las partes. Siempre tengo la manía de que todo quede bien sujeto, así que quizás no sea imprescindible =)
– Barniz o fijador. (esto es opcional, pero quedan mejor).
El primer paso es doblar los papeles. Realmente son tres flores iguales, montadas una encima de otra, por lo que en cuanto se sepa hacer una, el resto no tiene más misterio. El modelo me lo enseñaron a hacer en una cafetería, con servilletas de papel =) . Aquí dejo un esquema hecho por mí en el que explico cómo doblar los cuadrados:
A continuación, si ya se sabe qué colores combinar, se pasa el hilo por el centro de las tres flores, desde detrás, comenzando por la mayor. Se añade el abalorio, y se vuelve a pasar el hilo por el mismo sitio, empezando desde la flor pequeña, de delante hacia atrás. Antes de anudar el hilo, yo puse una gota de pegamento entre cada flor para que quedasen fijas montadas de la forma que más me gustaba (algunas intercalando los pétalos, otras no…). Se hacen los nudos y después se pasan los hilos por los agujeritos de las bases de broche, y se vuelve a anudar. Finalmente, puse otra gota de pegamento que me asegurase la unión de la última flor con el broche.
Cuando ya está seco el pegamento, el último paso es barnizarlas. Yo lo hice para que el papel quedase más resistente y tuviera menos probabilidad de rasgarse o aplastarse. Utilicé un spray, de manera que me fue más sencillo llegar a todos los rincones.
Estos broches no son excesivamente grandes, por lo que dependiendo de qué uso se quiera dar, quedaría mejor que fueran de mayores dimensiones o incluso de un único color. La verdad es que antes de hacer estos modelos estuve planteándome otros más, ¡se pueden hacer infinidad de clases! Dentro de poco habrá nuevas entregas =)
